New Valley home costs may be higher overall, but some are actually cheaper than resale houses in the same area when calculated by square foot.

So some buyers going farther out for bigger houses might actually be getting more home for their buck.

For a quick idea of how your home price fares, just divide the livable square feet into the house's most recent appraised price.

There are some neighborhoods in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Paradise Valley where the price per square foot of homes has climbed to $200 and higher, according to recorded sales documents.  But the median for the Valley is less than halt that.

Here's a breakdown of the typical per square foot price of new and used houses in some of the Valley's biggest cities based on median new and used home data.  It is just a range since the median is the middle of all prices and sizes.
